WHO WE ARE The Washington Bus is an innovative vehicle for hands-on democracy. We drive civic and political participation by finding innovative and spirited ways to engage young people. We drive new leaders by creating opportunities for young and young-at-heart volunteers. We drive change by advocating for issues that concern the public interest at the state and local level. And yes, we have a bus.
WHAT WE DO Days for Democracy is a citizen engagement program that delivers measurable results through political volunteerism.
Bus Trips offer decisive support for candidates around the state. We choose races with progressives who champion the public interest and where Bus support can swing the race.
Leadership Development—Our leadership development model is embedded within Bus programs. It takes young people who have experience with community and arts organizations and gives them an opportunity to develop their civic and political aspirations.
Trick-or-Vote is a non-partisan Halloween get-out-the-vote canvass that has been field-tested in Oregon since 2004.
Voter Registration—The Bus will target volunteer-led voter registration activities in high-traffic public spaces and events, as well as training volunteer Block Captains to register their neighbors to vote. The Bus will partner with grassroots organizations to amplify efforts and build synergy.
Candidate Derbies and Ballot Parties—Candidate Derbies put the fun back into politics and give true progressives the competitive advantage.
The Bus will also host community social events where ballots are brought to life and political jargon is decoded.
